A few weeks back I was in Germany visiting my friend Annie Valentine and she brought me to her favorite flea market in a near by village of Homburg, not to be confused with the giant Northern German city of Hamburg! This little town holds it’s own when it comes to flea markets. Its has a big reputation for hosting the biggest flea and antiques market in southwest Germany. Every vendor I spoke to used excellent English- in part because this area of Germany is home to several large American military base’s. The market is held in the center of town and gets started about 8am every first Saturday rain or shine. Since it rains almost all the time, you should expect bad weather, and prepare for it, but don’t let it stop you from going! About half way through our visit I remembered to pull out my camera and take a few shots. I found a cute antique children’s tea set for 20 Euro- It is darling and I can’t wait to show it off nearer to Christmas, but here are a few shots of some really cool goodies you can find at this place!
Dishes, Dishes, and more Dishes!
Can you guess what this is? I wanted to snatch it up sooo bad! It was being sold by a dealer Edel & Troedel, ( you can find them Tuesday – Saturday at Obere Allee 18 Homburg DE 66424) she explained that this beauty was a tin botanical collector. Big stems were placed on the inside of the open door, but the end opens too and is a collection space for small petals and blossoms. But look at that color- it was to dye for and the price reflected!
As the rain started really pouring I looked back and snapped a shot of this! It has some cracked spots and was sitting in the rain, I probably could have picked it up for a song! Before I leave Europe I hope to rescue a whole flock of Cuckoo Clocks!
Aren’t you in love with this vintage shaving set?
I’ll be back to this market next spring – hopefully that’s enough time to get my price haggle perfected. Are you good at price haggling? Don’t you just love a good flea market? Wanna visit Europe and check them out?
If your looking for the market try this GPS address: Am Forum, 66424 Homburg (Saar). This should get you there! ENJOY!
